Dragonvale Birthday Cake

I had never heard of Dragonvale until I have an order to that called for recreating one of the adorable little creatures from the game for a birthday cake.  This little cutie is a baby sun dragon from the iPhone/iPod game Dragonvale.  Since being aware of and downloading this game, my son has become as addicted to it as my client's son. 

This is a 6" round chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream.  The order also included a dozen chocolate cupcakes and a dozen vanilla cupcakes, all with vanilla buttercream.  The cupcake designs were based on dragon eggs in nests and the adorable flowers found in the garden habitat.  


Since the sun dragon habitat is fairly scarce, the embellishment for this cake came from the habitat of the solatace dragon.  Can't get over the cuteness of the very Dr.Seuss-esk trees.

Gender Reveal Cake

This was one of my favorite cakes I have done.  SO simple, yet So beautiful.  Katina and her husband are expecting their second baby.  At the ultrasound they had the tech write down the gender of the baby and put it in an envelope.  Then she brought me the envelope.  I have no idea how she didn't peak.  Don't think I could handle the suspense.  Anyway, only me and the ultrasound tech knew the gender of their new baby.  

I made a 6" round vanilla bean cake with vanilla buttercream filling dyed a  color representing the gender.  I then frosted the layers with vanilla buttercream rosettes, making sure to cover up every speck of the gender revealing frosting inside.  

She also brought me some fabric she had recently made a large bunting from and I created a mini bunting tied to two bamboo skewers with some jute.  I think it was a very quaint touch.  It was so exciting to be apart of such a huge event in a couples life.  

I was happy to hear that the Katina LOVED the cake and said the party went perfectly.  She and her husband are now expecting their second BOY!!
